Arrival in Leh — Journey Down to Alchi

Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh. From here, begin the drive down to Alchi — a gradual descent to lower, gentler altitude along one of Ladakh’s most scenic corridors, the silver ribbon of the Indus River flowing
En route stops before Alchi: Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, Sangam Point — the dramatic confluence of the Indus and Zanskar rivers.

Why Alchi? The ideal acclimatization base.
Alchi sits at approximately 3,100 m (10,200 ft) — nearly 400 m lower than Leh — making it one of the finest places in Ladakh to ease into altitude. The village is cradled between the arid Himalayan ranges and the silver ribbon of the Indus River, creating an atmosphere of deep calm. Narrow lanes wind past whitewashed chortens, ancient apricot orchards, and mud-brick homes. Evenings by the Indus offer a gentleness that Leh's busy bazaars simply cannot match.

Alchi to Leh — Sham Valley & Monastery Exploration

After breakfast, drive east through the Sham Valley towards Leh with en route stops.
Basgo Monastery — a crumbling 15th-century citadel of the Ladakhi kings, with stunning preserved paintings in its Maitreya temple.
Shey Palace — the ancient summer palace of the Ladakhi royal family, with sweeping Indus Valley views.
Thiksey Monastery — the magnificent 12-storey gompa evoking the Potala Palace in Lhasa, home to a towering 15-metre Maitreya Buddha.
Hemis Monastery — Ladakh's largest and wealthiest monastery, rich in thangkas and surrounded by mountains.
Arrive in Leh. Evening stroll through Leh Market — spices, pashmina, turquoise jewellery, and Ladakhi crafts.

Leh to Nubra Valley — via Khardung La

Early start — drive via Khardung La (5,359 m), one of the world's highest motorable passes, with staggering Karakoram Range views from the summit.
Descend into Nubra Valley. Check in at luxury camp.
Visit Diskit Monastery and the iconic 32-metre Maitreya Buddha statue overlooking the valley.
Sunset camel safari at Hunder Sand Dunes — Bactrian camels against a backdrop of dunes and Himalayan peaks.

Nubra — Siachen Glacier Base Camp

After breakfast, drive towards Siachen Base Camp — gateway to the world's highest battlefield, at over 5,400 m.
Visit the Siachen War Memorial, honouring the Indian soldiers who have served and sacrificed at the glacier.
Learn about the extraordinary history and extreme conditions of the Siachen conflict — one of the most demanding military operations in history.

After breakfast, scenic drive via the Shyok River route to Pangong Lake.
Arrive at Pangong and spend the afternoon at the lakeshore — colours shifting from sapphire to turquoise to emerald.
Sunset photography over the lake — the extraordinary colours at dusk are unmissable.

Pangong — Sunrise & Return to Leh

Arrive in Leh. Final evening in Leh — explore the market or relax.

Enjoy a final leisurely breakfast.
Transfer to Leh Airport for your onward journey.
Important Notes
Alchi base (Nights 1–2) provides acclimatization at lower altitude before ascending to Khardung La on Day 4.
Siachen Base Camp visit requires special military permits — arrange at least 4 weeks in advance through your host.
Inner Line Permits for Nubra Valley and Pangong are required — your host will arrange these.
Pangong private lakeside dinner is weather-dependent; an indoor alternative will be arranged if needed.
