- Arrive at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, Leh. From here, begin the drive down to Alchi — a gradual descent to lower, gentler altitude along one of Ladakh’s most scenic corridors, the silver ribbon of the Indus River flowing alongside to your left and dramatic arid mountain faces rising steeply on either side.
- En route stops before Alchi: Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, Magnetic Hill, Sangam Point.
- Check in and rest. Evening village walk through Alchi's lanes and along the Indus riverbank.
- Overnight stay: Alchi
Alchi sits at approximately 3,100 m (10,200 ft) — nearly 400 m lower than Leh — making it one of the finest places in Ladakh to ease into altitude. The village is cradled between the arid Himalayan ranges and the silver ribbon of the Indus River, creating an atmosphere of deep calm. Narrow lanes wind past whitewashed chortens, ancient apricot orchards, and mud-brick homes. Evenings by the Indus offer a gentleness that Leh's busy bazaars simply cannot match.
